Getting more confident on camera

Getting comfortable being on camera can be a hurdle that many trudge through when first beginning to carve out a social media presence. If you know that being on camera is just not your style, you might find some of these tips helpful for directing employees, friends or customers who love being in the spotlight just as much as they love your products or services.

Only capture photos and videos of yourself when you're feeling it.

If you're under the weather, tired or in a bad mood, that  energy will translate into the content that you create. As a general rule, try not to force creating content. It's good to have a plan for content and how you want to do it, just be wary of pushing yourself if you really aren't feeling good that day.

Try putting music on and just filming yourself dancing.

Don’t fret, this video can be strictly for your eyes only! But honestly, after doing this exercise more than a few times ourselves, we always find little moments where everything flows and the vibe feels totally natural. Those are the snippets you can save and use for Reels and TikToks over and over and over (if you want). Additionally, listening to music while moving your body is a great way to increase endorphins, reduce stress, and get yourself in a fun, confident and lifted mood.

Make sure you look at the lens on your phone and not at yourself on screen.

We (your audience) can tell you're looking at yourself. I know it's a tough habit to break, but it's a necessary one. Also, this will absolutely help you to stop scrutinizing every move you make while you're filming and be more focused on what you're doing or saying.

Before you begin, think about a narrative or a motive for yourself.

Some simple b-roll ideas for you might be: you just sat down with your morning coffee to begin working, you're tidying up your desk, you're sorting through new arrivals for your shop, you just started working with your dream client, etc. You have to have some sort of reason for why you're filming, otherwise you'll just end up looking awkward because you don't know what to do.

Get goofy.

We know this will feel strange, but some of our best footage we’ve captured was captured when we got a little silly.

Hype yourself up, however that looks for you.

A little treat or break to look forward to after filming can make all the difference!

Use audio that resonates with you.

If you're doing a lip sync-style video, this is extra important. If you feel a little bit (or a lot) happy when you hear whatever audio that you choose for your Reel or Stories, your audience will likely feel that way too.
